President/Leadership Council Member Joined Right to Housing Alliance in 2014. Since then, Detrese has become a passionate advocate for housing justice and basic human rights. In 2014, Detrese received the John P. Sarbanes Courage Award from the Public Justice Center for her outstanding work in Housing Justice. Gary Stroud

Gary Stroud

Vice-President/Leadership Council Member/Rental Assistance Demonstration(RAD) Specialist Joined the Right to Housing Alliance 2015. Gary was trained in setting up tenant councils for low-income housing by Maryland Legal Aid, Gary was trained to advocate for Section 8 and public housing residents by the National Alliance of HUD Tenants. Gary was also president and executive director of Maryland Statewide Residents Coalition.

Kevin James

Leadership Council Member Joined Right To Housing Alliance in 2014. Kevin taught high school in Baltimore City from 2001-2005. Afterward, he was active in fighting with the student-led Baltimore Algebra Project for adequate school funding. Kevin was also part of the anti-war movement because of the military over-recruits in poor Black & Brown communities. He's a hip hop artist and a former paramedic.

Tony Simmons

Tony Simmons

Leadership Council Member/ Homeless Advocate Tony joined Right to Housing Alliance in 2016 and has been a staunch advocate for the Baltimore Homeless Community. Tony helped lead the Rent Court Reform Campaign study, a collaboration between RTHA, Public Justice Center (PJC), and the Abel Foundation. This study was conducted to show how rent court cases are handled.
