Tenant Story: Josephine Utley
I have been living at Timber Croft Apartments/Townhomes in Owings Mills, MD since 1991. Timbercroft is currently operated under Habitat America. I have been living in conditions that have been a threat to my health and safety without much remediation from the property management. I have lived in five different apartments and townhomes from 2015 to 2018 on this property. In September 2018 to March 2019, I was placed in a handicap unit and I’m not handicap. There was a mold dehumidifier hooked up to my gas and electric bill but there has been recurring mold as well as rodent problems.
Because of this, I’m always sick and have difficulties getting up out of bed to do my regular routine. Due to the mold, I have lost valuables and some of my personal belong
ings have been damaged and couldn’t be salvaged. I have a notice from my Doctor stating that it isn’t safe for me to live here and the management is aware of this and still hasn’t tried to work with me to resolve these issues but instead all I’m getting is the run around. I know people may read this and ask well why don’t she just move? and what I have to say to that is I wish it was that easy but some of us don’t have the luxury to just pick and move like others can.
I’m not alone in this, I have neighbors dealing with this as well and we are beyond fed up. Housing is a human right and should be treated as such.
